This amazing little notebook features rich network and wireless connectivity, a graphic user interface for simplicity and ease of use, and more than 40 built-in applications. With the Asus Eee PC, bumps and shocks are no longer issues, because it features a dependable solid-state 4GB storage drive that gives you unparalleled shock-protection and reliability." It uses a Linux operating system and costs around $320. Please note that it does not have Windows or a very large hard drive but may be the lightest netbook available. 11-10

  2. -Best Selling Netbook: ASUS Eee PC (Amazon.com)
"Provides Windows 7 (Starter Edition), LED backlit 10.1" screen, 1.83GHz CPU, 1GB memory, 250GB hard drive, 2.8 pounds, and full size keyboard. Around $350 when purchased online."

Editor's Note: Windows 7 Starter Edition is a seriously stripped-down version of Windows that, for example, will not allow you to run older Windows XP programs. 11-10

  3. -Best Selling Netbooks (Netbook Reviews)
"Listed below are the current popular netbooks available. All are ranked by best selling. This page is updated every month with the current top sellers." 11-10

  4. -HannSpree SN12E2 Forum (NotebookReview.com)
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 runs like a dream on this machine. I'm even able to play some games at very low settings such as team fortress 2 and battlefield heroes."

"I did notice that there was a freezing issue while playing these games when I first got it, but updating the bios (provided on the hannspree website) seemed to have fixed it."

"Ubuntu in my opinion really makes this laptop shine, almost instant boot times, nice resolution, and fully capable of running all the gui enhancements that it offers."

"The touchpad is terrible. Not as responsive as the synaptics one." 11-10

  5. -HannSpree SN12E2 Netbook (Costco.com)
Provides Windows 7 (Home Edition), LED backlit 12.1" screen, dual-core CPU, 2GB memory, 320GB hard drive, 3.4 pounds, full size keyboard, multi-touch pad, and a protective jacket. Around $400 when purchased online. Windows 7 Home Edition is rarely included with a netbook and is much more desirable than the stripped-down Starter Edition usually included. A dual-core CPU and 2GB of memory are also rare and desirable. This was the highest rated netbook from Costco. 11-10

  6. -HannSpree SN12E2 Product Page (Hannspree.com)
Provides specifications, user manual, downloads for drivers, and more. 11-10

  7. -Netbook Comparisons (Netbook Reviews)

  8. -Ubuntu Operating System (Ubuntu.com)
"Ubuntu Netbook is a simple, secure and reliable way to use your netbook. It gives you instant access to all the free applications you’ll need, wherever you are."

"You can create a USB stick to run Ubuntu alongside your current [operating] system [such as Windows 7]."

"Ubuntu is different from the commercial Linux offerings that preceded it because it doesn't divide its efforts between a high-quality commercial version and a free, 'community' version. The commercial and community teams collaborate to produce a single, high-quality release, which receives ongoing maintenance for a defined period. Both the release and ongoing updates are freely available to all users." 11-10

  9. -Windows 7 Starter Edition (About.com)
"The most important thing to know is that Windows 7 Starter edition is exclusively for use on netbook computers. You can't get it on a standard PC (nor would you want it, in most cases.) Windows 7 Starter is a significantly stripped-down version of Windows 7." For example, it is missing "Windows Media Center for watching recorded TV or other media." It is also missing "XP Mode for those that want the ability to run older Windows XP programs on Windows 7." 11-10

  10. 4G LTE Modem Review (SlashGear.com)
"You’re not likely to call the LG VL600 USB modem stylish; it’s a chunky dongle, packed with both 4G and 3G radios for when you’re outside of the 38 cities Verizon says will have LTE service by the end of this year. It – together with the rotating Pantech UML290 – will be $99.99 when it goes on sale come December 5, with a new, two-year agreement. Data itself is $50 for 5GB per month or $80 for 10GB; after that it’s $10/GB." 12-10

  11. Acer Aspire One Netbook (Walmart.com)
Provides Windows 7 (Starter Edition), Microsoft Works 9, LED backlit 10.1" screen, 1.7GHz CPU, 1GB memory, 250GB hard drive, 3 pounds, and almost full size keyboard. Around $335 when purchased online.

Editor's Note: Windows 7 Starter Edition is a seriously stripped-down version of Windows that, for example, will not allow you to run older Windows XP programs. 11-10

  12. Samsung N230 Netbook (Netbook Reviews)
"My Samsung N210 review was very popular with over 65,000 views and 100 comments, and is currently my netbook of choice, so I have very high hopes for Samsung’s latest ultra sleek model. Samsung have [sic] always had a very good reputation for their netbooks design and build quality, and it was one of the most impressive aspects of the N210. Simply put, the Samsung N230's keyboard is excellent."

Provides Windows 7 (Starter Edition), 10.1" screen, 1.66GHz CPU, 1GB memory, 250GB hard drive, and full size keyboard. Around $350 when purchased online.

Editor's Note: Windows 7 Starter Edition is a seriously stripped-down version of Windows that, for example, will not allow you to run older Windows XP programs. 11-10
