  38. Web Hosting Reviews by Users (HostInvestigator.com)
Provides a search engine to allow you to find comments on a Web hosting service that you are considering. Editor's Note - Features alone do not make a good hosting company. In addition, we have found that some of the ratings by TopHost , HostIndex, and others have conflicted sharply with our own experiences and experiences reported by others in discussion groups.

However, in discussion groups we found only good comments about HostMatters.com, Below10host.com and half a dozen others. We then tested the speed of their connections and found HostMatters and Below10host.com among the fastest. We asked questions of the two companies at all hours and received quick responses that took care of our needs. We found both companies to be honorable, fast, technically competent, and reliable. We chose HostMatters and have found their continuing services (and speed of connections) to be exceptionally good. For a more expensive service that includes phone based technical support, we have found RapidSystem.com to be excellent. We recommend doing a bulletin board search on a hosting service before committing to it. (Google and HostInvestigator both search bulletin boards for comments.) 09-09

  43. Hendrix, Jimi (RockHall.com)
"Jimi Hendrix expanded the range and vocabulary of the electric guitar into areas no musician had ever ventured before. Many would claim him to be the greatest guitarist ever to pick up the instrument. At the very least his creative drive, technical ability and painterly application of such effects as wah-wah and distortion forever transformed the sound of rock and roll. Hendrix helped usher in the age of psychedelia with his 1967 debut, Are You Experienced?, and the impact of his brief but meteoric career on popular music continues to be felt. 47. Meeting the Challenge of Governance and Corruption (CopenhagenConsensus.com)
Provides a paper and two opponent views.

"Researchers at the World Bank estimate that $1 trillion is spent on bribes annually, some 3% of global GDP. The impact on economic growth and world income could well be much higher than this. Corruption is one symptom of a failure to achieve an appropriate balance between private wealth and public power. Ultimately, there is a risk that government will be captured by powerful interests and rendered dysfunctional. Both private citizens and companies are then drawn into the cycle of bribery, forced to pay corrupt officials to obtain routine services and major contracts and concessions."

"Global solutions to this challenge are difficult to find because corruption and poor governance have a variety of causes. Solutions are not easy to implement because they disadvantage powerful vested interests that can block reforms. Despite these caveats, carefully tailored policies – carried out with the personal commitment of those on the ground – can have large benefits and very low costs.""

"In summary, promising policy options are:"

"Option 1: Grassroots monitoring and service delivery, with technical assistance and information provision provided centrally by government or nongovernmental organisations." 10-05

  49. -Study: Checks and Balances on the President (Congressional Research Service)
Provides a technical review of Presidential authority in surveillance as it applies to the current controversy of the President violating current law regarding his authority. "From the foregoing analysis, it appears unlikely that a court would hold that Congress has expressly or impliedly authorized the NSA electronic surveillance operations here under discussion, and it would likewise appear that, to the extent that those surveillances fall within the definition of 'electronic surveillance' within the meaning of FISA or any activity regulated under Title III, Congress intended to cover the entire field with these statutes." 01-06

  50. -07-11-06 Studies: Election Machines Reform Essential (CommonCause.org)
"This report surveys four major studies that reviewed DRE voting machine security and reliability. Two of the reports involved extensive review of more than 80 academic, technical, and industry reports on DREs. Each report concluded DRE machines to be vulnerable to malfunction and also to tampering in which a computer-savvy hacker with minimal access to the machine could introduce malicious code to the DRE software and change the results of an election. Such manipulation could be undetectable. In machines equipped with a modem, it could even be done from a remote location.” 07-06
