"Bill Gates pledged Friday to triple his foundation's funding for eradicating tuberculosis to a total of $900 million by 2015, and health experts at the World Economic Forum urged renewed caution against the spread of bird flu." 01-06.

Proivdes a factsheet. "Tuberculosis (TB) is an airborne infection caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis that primarily affects the lungs. TB can be spread by coughing, sneezing, laughing or singing. Repeated exposure to someone with TB disease is generally necessary for infection to take place." 01-06.
- Tuberculosis Skin Test (American Lung Association)
"Two types of skin tests are currently available in the U.S; the recommended Mantoux skin test, which uses a needle to place a standard dose of tuberculin just under the surface of the skin and the multi puncture or "tine" test uses multiple tines (pins) dipped in tuberculin. This test is not considered as accurate as the Mantoux test because the quantity of the tuberculin administered cannot be precisely controlled. The Mantoux test should be used for screening and diagnosis." 01-06.
