- Near-Zero Emissions Coal-Fired Plant (FutureGenAlliance.com)
"FutureGen is a US $1.5 billion public-private partnership to design, build, and operate a near-zero emissions coal-fueled power plant. The commercial-scale R&D facility will integrate advanced technologies to develop a first-of-its-kind clean power plant that will help fuel the world’s economy, sustain livelihoods, and meet demand for clean electricity."
"Siting and building a power plant is a major undertaking that requires design, construction, and permitting. The FutureGen Alliance and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) plan an aggressive developing schedule that includes announcing a final site selection in the latter half of 2007, beginning construction within two years, and initiating full-scale plant operations in 2012. Currently, the major activities include completing environmental impact assessments on the four candidate sites, selecting a final site and conducting engineering design work." 10-07
